Join My Small-Group Travel Photography Tours

If you’ve ever wished your holidays felt less rushed and more rich, with time to stand in the light, compose thoughtfully, and create images that carry feeling, my travel photography tours were designed for you. I lead intimate, supportive adventures where we slow down, see deeper, and come home with photographs (and memories) you’ll treasure.

I’m Angela Haig; award-winning photographer based in Dunedin, New Zealand, and I guide small groups through soulful destinations with a calm, encouraging teaching style. Whether you’re just getting comfortable in manual mode or you’re a confident shooter keen to refine your voice, you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Why travellers love these tours

  • Photography-first pace: Fewer stops, more time in the good light. Sunrise, blue hour, golden hour, planned in.

  • Hands-on learning: Short daily lessons, on-location coaching, and simple prompts to help you see like a storyteller.

  • Small groups: Usually 8–10 guests, so you get real attention (and space to shoot).

  • Authentic experiences: Local guides, meaningful cultural encounters, and ethical choices.

  • Calm, friendly vibe: No ego. No rush. Just beautiful places, good company, and images that feel like you.

Who it’s for

  • Curious travellers who want to deepen their photography (DSLR/mirrorless or phone welcome).

  • Creatives craving a reset and a spark.

  • Solo travellers who love the idea of a safe, friendly group.

  • Partners welcome, shooters and non-shooters alike.

You don’t have to be “technical.” We’ll build skills gently and give you practical steps you can use immediately.

Destinations with soul

Malaysia: Night Markets, Rainforest Greens & Heritage Streets

Think glowing night stalls, steaming bowls of laksa, and the ornate shophouses of Penang and Melaka. In Kuala Lumpur, we work cityscapes and geometry among sleek towers; in heritage quarters, we chase colour, texture, and quiet portraits (always with consent). Optional side trips might include limestone caves, tea-softened horizons in Cameron Highlands, or coastal villages at dawn. Expect vibrant low-light practice, street storytelling, and a feast of pattern and detail.

Japan: Stillness & Motion

From neon canyons and train blur to temple gardens and quiet lanes, Japan offers a poetic contrast. We chase reflections, leading lines, and seasonal moments (plum blossom, maple leaves, snowfall, depending on dates). You’ll learn to handle mixed light, street etiquette, and craft a cohesive series.

ree

Italy: Classical Light, Lived-In Beauty

Golden facades, narrow vicoli, espresso corners, and the kind of light painters worshipped. We’ll explore a mix of cities and slower landscapes, think Rome’s layered history, Florence’s lines and forms, Venice’s water-borne moods, and perhaps Tuscan or coastal scenes for open, breathing space. Expect lessons in sculpting with light, elevating everyday scenes, and balancing grand architecture with human moments.

ree

Thailand: Temples, Tuk-Tuks & Tropical Light

Golden temples at dawn, long-tail boats skimming emerald water, and markets that glow after dark,Thailand is a masterclass in colour and movement. We’ll practice low-light storytelling in night bazaars, serene compositions at temple complexes, and layered scenes on the Chao Phraya or island shores. Expect gentle guidance on portrait etiquette, balancing busy frames, and making humidity and haze work for you.

ree

Singapore: Future City, Perfect Lines

A playground for geometry lovers, glass, steel, reflections, and lush vertical gardens. From Marina Bay and the supertrees to shophouse facades in Chinatown and Joo Chiat, we’ll chase symmetry, leading lines, and dusk reflections. You’ll learn mixed-light techniques, fast on-the-go exposure decisions, and how to craft a cohesive urban series that feels both sleek and human.

Paris: Classical Light & Street Poetry

Morning light over the Seine, café corners, and Haussmann lines that guide the eye—Paris lets you practice subtlety and restraint. We’ll blend iconic views with quieter side streets, working on timing, gesture, and the art of “almost still” moments. Expect exercises in monochrome thinking, window light portraits, and night shooting that keeps the romance intact without over-editing.

What you’ll learn (without the overwhelm)

  • Composition that sings: Layering, negative space, colour theory, and visual rhythm.

  • Light work: Reading natural light, quick on-the-go adjustments, and making magic in “bad” weather.

  • Storybuilding: From single hero shots to a sequence that feels like the place.

  • People & place: Respectful portrait approaches and candid storytelling.

  • Edit with intention: Simple, clean edits for a timeless look; building a consistent aesthetic.

You’ll get mini-assignments, gentle feedback, and end the tour with a curated set you’ll be proud to print.
